The first appearance of Sherlock Holmes in 1887 (in A Study in Scarlet) is particularly interesting in historical terms. For the first time, European cities had proliferated to the point where it was impossible to know more than a small percentage of their inhabitants, so his characters get lost in London that is the modern city of that era. A Study in Scarlet is the first novel in the Holmes detective series, and it largely introduces the reader to the forthcoming series by Doyle. A great start to the Sherlock Holmes series and the legendary duo that revolutionized crime detection fiction. Also, it is very interesting to know the origins of Watson and Sherlock and how their partnership was formed. This book is highly recommended for those who enjoy Sherlock Holmes detective novels and also for who enjoy the works of Arthur Conan Doyle in general.
